English Ministry of Inland Church

Shepherd’s Corner – November 6, 2016

This week the elections are upon us. I believe the pulpit is not the place to discuss politics or to stand on a political platform. But in light of people’s frustrations with the government and with the candidates that are up for election, I wanted to reiterate a quote I read this past week, “America is not the savior of the world; Jesus is. America is not a city set on a hill; the church is.” (Ed Stetzer) We are reminded to keep our eyes fixed on the true savior of the world, Christ and build up and be active in the true city on a hill, the church. But we don’t simply turn a blind eye to our government, but we pray for it and honor the leaders. I’ll leave it with Peter’s exhortation from 1 Peter 2:13-17, “Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor [emphasis mine].”

in Him,
Rev. Daevid Yoon
