Shepherd’s Corner – October 8, 2017

In light of recent tragedies and natural disasters we can have no
other response but “maranatha!”  The common translation of that
Aramaic word is “Come, Lord!”  And this is an appropriate response to
the reality of the brokenness that we see in this world.  Romans
8:20-21 reminds us that all of creation has been subjected to futility
and is groaning for the glory of God to be revealed.  And that is
because this world endures the ill-effects of sin everyday.  That
ill-effect demonstrates itself both in nature (e.g. floods,
hurricanes, earthquakes) and in human nature (mass shootings,
uncontrollable tongue, cruelty).  So as Christians we have no other
hope for the resolution of sin’s effects but to hope in and look to
Christ.  He forgives our sins in our personal salvation.  But we await
his return to restore all of creation from its sin, through his
judgment and his renewal of creation.  So let’s pray for healing and
comfort to those who are suffering these recent tragedies and we pray
for and long for Christ’s return.

in Him,
Rev. Daevid Yoon
