Happy Father’s Day. It may seem almost like an afterthought because
June is typically called “Dads and Grads”. And oftentimes it is the
moms not the dads who really do the heavy lifting with the children.
But here’s a shout out to those dads out there who really do take the
time to discipline, train, teach, and love their children. And here’s
to all those role models (or I’m praying for future role models) in
our congregation who love the younger brothers by praying with them
and almost acting like a spiritual dad. Of course it’s important for
those dads who go out and work hard to bring home the finances to keep
the family going and even comfortable. But I urge our dads out there
to also take the time for the personal touch of loving your families
(your wife too!). And this isn’t because of some pro-feminist shift
in today’s modern age, no it’s because as Christians, we know of our
true Father in heaven who doesn’t just provide for our material and
physical needs, but adds the personal touch of loving us wonderfully.
