Shepherd’s Corner – September 2, 2018

According to the Dept of Labor, “Labor Day, the first Monday in
September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the
social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a
yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the
strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.”  Believe it or
not working is a blessing.  God actually created us to work (Gen
2:15).  Working was not a consequence of the Fall as a curse, but
instituted before sin as a blessing.  Because working was an
opportunity for mankind to be productive (the Hebrew word in 2:15 for
work can also be translated as cultivate) and to maintain God’s
creation.  I know to some Y1 students, that sounds ridiculous.  But
ask anyone who has had nothing to do for more than a month (e.g. Y2
members waiting to start grad school or anyone looking for a job) and
they’ll tell you that working is a blessing!  So let’s thank God for
the opportunity not to be lazy and to be productive.  Let’s continue
to be diligent and grateful for the work we have before us! (and that
means a job or studying or parenting, etc!)  And let’s pray for those
who are looking for jobs or waiting on schools, that God will open
doors soon.  Happy Labor Day.

in Him,
Rev. Daevid Yoon
